Every Terhune has its day

In the 1986 movie “Hoosiers,” Hickory had Terhune’s number. Friday night at the historic Hoosier Gym in Knightstown where the movie was filmed, it was a different outcome.

Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Basketball Tyler Zeller of Hickory was the high scorer in the boys exhibition game of the annual “Hoosiers” Reunion All-Star Classic, but Terhune won 118-111.

The Terhune girls won 101-97, led by Kokomo’s Kayla Drake (22 points).

North grad Alex Guyton dominated the lane, scoring 26 points and blocking five shots in Friday night’s Hoosiers Reunion All-Star Classic at the historic Knightstown gym.

Guyton’s Hickory squad lost to Terhune despite her performance, 101-97.

“I felt good,” she said. “I was just feeling it. It was so hot in there, but games like these teach you how to be a competitor. Playing against the best is the best way to learn that.”

Guyton, a Purdue recruit, will start training with the Indiana All-Star team today in preparation for the annual series against Kentucky.

Former Edgewood star Garrett Butcher, who will play at Butler next year (one of the four who played today and next week with the Indiana All-Stars), played for Terhune and hit a key turnaround jumper in the third quarter as his squad prevailed, 118-108. Later, he drove hard to the lane at Mr. Basketball Tyler Zeller — a player he battled during his high school career — hit the basket and drew contact.

Butcher begins camp with the Indiana All-Stars today.

Twenty-four Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Stars were scheduled to take part in the exhibition games.

I don’t think I have read once that 4 Butler players played last night, and 4 will be playing in the KY/IN games. That’s sort of a big story to just kind of brush by.

SS, I too happen to be a big Butler fan, but… I don’t anyone will be brushing it by when the Dawgs kick some butt next year with these kids!
