Adidas May Classic
Though the majority of the games will be played at Bloomington SportsPlex and Assembly Hall, high school gyms in the region (including Martinsville and Easter Greene) will also be used because the event, which started with about 50 teams in 2000, has ballooned to more than 170 teams in three grades.
Several players Indiana is recruiting — including 6-10 center Maurice Sutton, who could join the incoming 2008 class — will play in the tournament.
Tickets for opening night on Friday and the finals on Sunday are $5 each. Tickets for Saturday are $10.
Who to watch at the Adidas May Classic
Tonight at Assembly Hall:
7: Indiana Elite LNO vs. So Cal All-Stars
Forwards Patrick Bade (class of 2009) and Maurice Sutton (2008) are IU targets, while So Cal’s David and Travis Wear are 6-9 twins who have committed to North Carolina. Their teammate, Demetrius Walker, is considering Indiana.
8:15: Indiana Elite One 15-under vs. Illinois Elite
Will the third time be a charm? Indiana missed out on two Zeller brothers and two Plumlee brothers. Cody Zeller and Marshall Plumlee star for Indiana Elite alongside Bloomington South’s promising sophomore-to-be guard Spencer Turner.
9:30: Indiana Elite/Team Indiana 15-under vs. Indiana Bullets
Now that Ray McCallum Jr. is off to Detroit, Darwin Davis becomes a featured player in Bloomington North’s offense. He helps run the Indiana Elite team that has two 7-foot centers and is considered by many to be one of the most talented teams in the country in its age group.
